University Graduation

The sun shone bright that day. Students milled around. Parents milled around. Young children cried. The heat rose a little higher in the giant tent where the graduation was being held and then, mercifully, a breeze rose out of nowhere and blew through the openings.

Speeches lasted for over an hour and Simone, despite being immensely proud of her son, wondered why she'd neglected to bring a book. Inevitably, however, the speeches wound down, bringing to an end the massacre of the French language that many of the illustrious academics had tried to spit out.

Role call for nearly 400 students took less than fifteen minutes as no prizes were officially awarded. Students received awards but no official presentation occurred, so that Simone's 22 year old's Bilingual Award of Excellence went unnoticed, save for the mention in the graduation handbook...

And in Simone's heart, of course!
