Villa Chez Piè

Simone and family, having arrived well after 10 pm, had had no time to familiarize themselves with their rental home. Exhausted after being awake for more than 24 hours, they simply chose beds with a modicum of randomness, and crashed. Simone's own sleep was not by any means prolonged. The temperature outside had to be over 30 degrees Celsius - yes, even at night. There was no air conditioning. All the windows were open, with the shutters shut to allow air in and keep intruders out. The shutters, however, presented no barrier whatsoever to the myriad of mosquitoes who wanted in. They also allowed in the night noises of dozens of wandering dogs whose sole purpose, that sad night of Italy's loss of the soccer cup in the finals, seemed to be to wail and howl at the very full moon. In the morning, Simone and hubby were covered in bug bites. Some came from mosquitoes. Others came from ants. Truly, truly blessed. But, hey, at least the view from the terrace was absolutely outstanding!
