Just take my banana!

Simone woke up, checked the clock and realized that she still had a couple of hours to go before B's appointment that morning. Before sinking back to sleep though, she padded over to the window and looked out. "Dang," she cursed. Over a foot of snow had fallen overnight. Hubby was gone to work and she'd need to get out of the driveway soon enough. She got dressed and, with the help of a neighbour, managed to fire up the snowblower. Before long, she had to go back inside the house though: B needed to be prodded into action (get dressed, have breakfast) and she'd need to warm the car. Fortunately, for a fee, the neighbour agreed to finish clearing off the driveway. Oh. Yes. And Simone needed to wear something other than her pyjamas if she was going out to face the world. Simone's mother, who was visiting and was unaware of the morning's agenda, greeted Simone as she dusted the snow off her head in the enclosed porch. "I want a banana with my breakfast," said Simone's mother. "And all I can see is the banana you have on the counter with your breakfast. Where are the bananas?" Ah. Yes. Thought Simone. Have breakfast. Add that to the list. "It's okay. Just use the banana I took out," Simone said, racing up the stairs to see if B was getting dressed. He wasn't. "B! Get dressed!" Simone said. "We have thirty minutes to get to your appointment and you still haven't had breakfast or gotten dressed!" Grumbling, B obeyed. Slowly. Painfully slowly. Simone's mother came up the stairs. "Why can't you tell me where the bananas are?" She complained. Simone sighed. "I'll get you a banana," she said. Only she forgot to get the banana because she was serving B his breakfast when she heard the dogs barking outside and realized that she'd left them out there for nearly two hours. And when she finished drying the dogs (because they'd been covered with clumps of snow, which could either be left there to melt or washed off in the laundry tub), it was time to go. As she reached for the door handle, Simone's mother made one last attempt. "Just tell me where the bananas are!" By this time, Simone was late and the trouble with the bananas was that they were in a cupboard above the fridge and would need a stepping stool to get to and there was a banana available on the counter because, clearly, Simone would not be eating her breakfast any time soon. She gritted her teeth. "Just take my banana." "Don't you raise your voice at me!" Simone's mother shouted. "And don't you walk out on me!" Simone hurried to her car and checked the clock. Two minutes to make a three minute drive in snowy, uncleared roads. Sigh... This too shall pass...
