Whaaaat?

B raced along the sidewalk toward the local community centre as families, carrying bags filled with overflowing towels, headed in the opposite direction. "The pool is closed," several parents told Simone. "There's no swimming tonight." B gleefully ignored them. "I want to check anyhow," he said. He barrelled through the automatic sliding doors and beelined for the reception desk. "Hi," he told the lady behind the desk. "My name's B. I'm in Swimmer 1." "I'm sorry," said the lady. "The pool's closed tonight." B stared at her, wide-eyed, "Whaaaat?" "The pool's closed. There's no swimming." B crossed his arms and furrowed his brows. "Whaaaat?" "There was an accident in each of the pools. We have to clean them up." His "Whaaaaaat?" Reached the peak of its crescendo. "But don't worry. We'll add another class to the end of your session so you won't be missing any classes." "Whaaaat?" But this latest question lacked the indignant quality of his earlier version and verged on resignation. "C'mon, big guy," said Simone. "Let's go home." "Okay, but can we go LOOK at the pool to make sure?"
