Let's go shopping

The reception clerk assured Simone that the shopping area was within a short walk of the hotel. Let's be clear: the reception clerk lied. It took Simone and B nearly an hour and a half to make it to the nearest store - meaning that they got there minutes before it closed. Fortunately, this store sold a little bit of everything. Simone was able to find clean t-shirts and pants for B as well as some toiletry items to tide them through until the next day. B, to his delight, found a backpack. "Can I have it?" Given that the poor kid had split his skull open minutes before boarding their plane back home, delaying their departure for a day, Simone felt that maybe he should get a little something. Plus it would be perfect for carrying all their purchases. Once their shopping done, they meandered over to the McDonald's and, by a small miracle, found a place to sit down to enjoy their meal. "Can I change my shirt?" B asked. "Yup," Simone agreed. B's old shirt, covered with the blood from his head wound, definitely needed a wash. "Are we walking back?" B asked. Simone looked around but failed to spot a taxi. There were, however, busses. "We'll figure it out, kiddo," she promised B and, a bus and a taxi later, they were back at the hotel.
