On va faire dodo quand?

It's time to go! It's time to go!

Less than five hours after the last visiting family member said good bye and Simone finally got to rest her weary head on the pillow of the pillow on the pullout couch of her father's house in Normandy, it was time to wake up again. With the airport almost two hours away, they would need to get ready in a hurry in order to make their flight in time. Then, with the well-oiled precision of years of experience, the family got ready: shower, dressed, packed, car and gas fillup just before arriving at the airport to return their rental car. They arrived with plenty of lead time which proved useless: their plane was two hours late leaving Paris. Simone daydreamed halfheartedly of napping somewhere comfortable as they waited in the cold hard airport seats. One by one and two by two, they halfheartedly shopped in the airport stores. Then, finally, it was time to board the busses that would take them to the plane. Au revoir, Paris! Simone waved from the 'hublot'.

Ouf... On dort. (Simone aussi était à bout, là qu'on y pense...)

Getting ready!

Everyone was bustling in Simone's father's Normandy house. The kitchen became a veritable hive, with people going in and out, preparing food, fetching dishes, removing others... Simone and hubby got into their rental car and hightailed it out of there! They had an extremely important mission to accomplish: they had to travel to Versailles and bring Simone's grandmother back for the much anticipated family meal then go to the grocery store for any last minute items. Simone's grandmother proved to be a hurdle: miffed at having been left home until the last minute, she refused to leave her apartment initially. Simone coaxed and finessed and finally resorted to bullying by wheeling her grandmother's suitcase away. Grumbling, Simone's grandmother put her coat on and followed. The grocery store provided additional stress: a Saturday before a holiday meant the place was crazy crowded. Still, hubby managed to find everything on his list and then some: special glasses for a very special port-type beer he had smuggled in from the States, gifts for everyone in attendance and some number 4 oysters. His face fell when he saw the line-up at the cash registers though. "I'm going to get something from the car," he announced and left Simone to it. Breathe. Slowly. Sooner or later, you'll get to the cash register, Simone assured herself. Sigh...

A crowded trip back

Now that Simone's hubby and daughter had arrived in France, a logistical problem popped up: how in the world were they all going to fit in Simone's dad's rental car? There was overnight luggage to consider but at least Simone's uncle had gallantly offered to taxi the overseas luggage in his vehicle so that they might all fit into the small car better. So five adults, one small to medium size dog and one normal 6 year old boy climbed into the car. Yes. It was crowded. They still had to stop in Chinatown for some much needed foods that would be served at the family gathering the next evening. Once the shopping done, the trunk was full. The car was full. Simone's legs were numb, what with B sitting on them for two hours. Simone, however, was pleased as pie to have her husband and daughter there. What a beautiful, beautiful surprise. Definitely worth a little leg numbness as they drove back to the house in Normandy!
