Pauvre chien...

The dog came back...

No, Eliot is not like the cat featured in the song, "The Cat Came Back". Eliot is even more a creature of comfort and habit than any old cat. So when he followed Simone into the garage yesterday and inadvertently found himself locked out of the house, poor Eliot did not know what to do with himself. After all, he'd been taught that it was NOT okay to bark so how was he to let his mistress know that he was stuck in the garage and... oh, wait! The garage door was open a crack! Eliot nosed it open and snuck outside. Dang! It was still raining and he couldn't figure out how to get back in!

Simone did not notice the dog's absence immediately. The early morning hour combined with fatigue made her less observant than usual. Still, when she reached for the dog treats and rattled the container without sign, fair or foul, of the dog, she began to worry.

Simone opened the front door and whistled. Nothing. She went into the garage and whistled. Nothing. She stuck her head out the side door and whistled. Still nothing. Ditto in the backyard. She sent a message to her husband who asked if perhaps Simone could use the same trick to lure the kids out of the house. He relented somewhat when it became apparent that Simone was truly worried. "What if you open the side gate?" He asked. "That way if the dog comes back, he can go into the backyard."

Genius idea. Simone obtempurated and headed outside after checking her watch. Yep. It was breakfast time for the dog and he still... as Simone rounded the corner of the house, the dog came flying at her, ears down and whining and wagging his tail.

"Where have you been?" she asked, scratching the dog's head.

Eliot didn't answer but he looked very, very happy to be back! It was, after all, breakfast time.

Eliot a disparu...

Eliot Takes Shower

The weather finally warmed up enough that Simone and hubby managed to get some serious gardening work done. Plants were planted, grass was cut, mulch got piled around plants... It was a busy weekend indeed.

In the midst of all that activity however, Simone noticed a pile of bird droppings on the ledge and floor of their deck.

"Black birds," Simone's hubby declared solemnly, pointing to a small bird with black plumage chasing after a squirrel. "They're sleeping on our deck."

Simone devised a serious plan of action, involving the purchase of an owl statue to put the fear of predators into the little hearts of would-be deck roosters. Hubby took care of the immediate problem of bird poop by dragging the hose over the deck so he could spray the ... stuff ... off the deck. The dog followed hubby's endeavour with great interest.

"Would you stay out of my way?" an exasperated hubby told the dog.

Clearly misunderstanding hubby's question for "Would you stay and play?" the dog crouched and wagged his tail in a friendly fashion. Since the dog was crouched precisely in the line of fire, hubby shrugged and sprayed the dog in the face. The dog shook his head and... went back at the stream of water now pouring past him. He repeatedly tried to bite the water and got, as a result, the very first shower of his life...

The letter B and the letter C

Baby B was very happy. He had managed to "sneak" three letters from his alphabet puzzle out of the house. A, B and C. Unfortunately, on his way out the door, he dropped one of the letters.

"B!" he screeched. "B! B! B!"

"We'll find it later," soothed Simone. "We have to go to the doctor's office right now."

"B! B! B!" insisted Baby B.

Simone tucked the reluctant child into his car seat and walked around to the driver's seat.

Grandma approached her. "Do you think I could borrow that bracelet that the little guy was playing with last night?" she asked Simone. "I'd like to wear it to the funeral I'm going to today."

"Sure," said Simone. "Can you keep an eye on Baby B while I run upstairs to get it?"

Grandma was waving her hand around Baby B when Simone returned to the car, bearing the requested bracelet. "What are you doing?" asked Simone.

"He's complaining about a bee," explained Grandma, waving frantically. "I can't see one but you know, with my eyes."

Simone sighed and decided that it would take too long to explain. "Here," she said, handing Grandma the bracelet. Grandma smiled and thanked Simone.

"C!" screeched Baby B, spying the exchange and recognizing his favourite, because of its "C" shape, bracelet.

"See what?" asked Grandma, still waving her hand and peering about anxiously. "Is the bee back?"

"C!" Hollered Baby B, tears streaming down his face.

"Gotta go," said Simone, moving between Grandma and the car in order to shut the door. Simone then sat down in the driver's seat.

"I!" said Baby B, who recently decided that he did not like his face wet with tears. An unfortunate dislike when one is a toddler and prone to fits of crying.

"I'll wipe your eyes in a second," sighed Simone.

"B!" sighed Baby B. He sobbed a couple of times. "C!"
