The dog came back...

No, Eliot is not like the cat featured in the song, "The Cat Came Back". Eliot is even more a creature of comfort and habit than any old cat. So when he followed Simone into the garage yesterday and inadvertently found himself locked out of the house, poor Eliot did not know what to do with himself. After all, he'd been taught that it was NOT okay to bark so how was he to let his mistress know that he was stuck in the garage and... oh, wait! The garage door was open a crack! Eliot nosed it open and snuck outside. Dang! It was still raining and he couldn't figure out how to get back in!

Simone did not notice the dog's absence immediately. The early morning hour combined with fatigue made her less observant than usual. Still, when she reached for the dog treats and rattled the container without sign, fair or foul, of the dog, she began to worry.

Simone opened the front door and whistled. Nothing. She went into the garage and whistled. Nothing. She stuck her head out the side door and whistled. Still nothing. Ditto in the backyard. She sent a message to her husband who asked if perhaps Simone could use the same trick to lure the kids out of the house. He relented somewhat when it became apparent that Simone was truly worried. "What if you open the side gate?" He asked. "That way if the dog comes back, he can go into the backyard."

Genius idea. Simone obtempurated and headed outside after checking her watch. Yep. It was breakfast time for the dog and he still... as Simone rounded the corner of the house, the dog came flying at her, ears down and whining and wagging his tail.

"Where have you been?" she asked, scratching the dog's head.

Eliot didn't answer but he looked very, very happy to be back! It was, after all, breakfast time.
