When hubby's away...

Simone had a productive day yesterday.

Hubby travelled down to Toronto to see the doctor about his very slowly healing crushed foot and to attend to business. Simone stayed behind because little B had to go to school and even though he's a very independent 4 year old, it probably would have been excessive to expect him to get dressed, feed himself breakfast, get his lunch ready, brush and floss his teeth, put on appropriate outerwear then head out to the bus stop by himself. Oh, and don't forget to lock the door!

She spent part of the time writing, of course. But the garage beckoned. The trailer, filled to the brim with pieces of wood and various offal, needed to be emptied so it could be pulled outside, refilled and brought to the dump. Simone proposed to do Step One of this ambitious ordeal.

Step One took an inordinate amount of time, but one piece of wood at a time, Simone managed to remove most of the junk from the trailer. The trouble began a little later. The bottom of the trailer was stuffed with soil and pieces of turf from one of hubby's other over-ambitious projecst a couple of years past. Simone sat down in the trailer and dutifully scooped one handful of dirt into a yard waste bag at a time.

By the time the last yard waste bag was filled a third of the way, Simone could hardly breathe. She went inside the house to clean up and stopped, in front of her bed, contemplating the unthinkable.

Well, why not? She thought at last.

And so Simone had a nap.

Ssssssshhhhh!
