Home Sweet Home
Well, Simone had not reached her current home sweet home but tonight, she and B would sleep in her childhood home in Normandy.
Of course, the room arrangements had changed since her childhood. The room she and her brother had shared was now occupied by Simone's father and stepmom. Simone and B would sleep in the room that Simone's grandparents had slept in. But the 150 year old home remained the same in its overall structure, even as Simone's father and stepmom renovated it, installing much welcome showers and toilets on the second floor and a cold room in the basement.
And B had the grounds to discover: rabbits everywhere, horses in the back pasture, a small orchard in the garden, hidden doors and passageways... A child's fantasy world could flourish here...
Before sleep though, dinner beckoned.
"I was thinking of going to the restaurant for dinner tonight," suggested Simone's dad as they watched B chase another rabbit down.
"Pizza?" Simone said, salivating at the thought.
"Sure," agreed Simone's father.
Pizza at the town's pizzeria bears little resemblance to the fast food, mass-produced variety dear to North America. In fact, a cloud of black smoke undulated from the window as they neared the restaurant. "Is it safe?" They asked through the window.
The chef coughed and nodded. "New sous-chef. He went home."
Hmmmm... Okay then...
