Bermuda is another world!
Simone smiled, delighted beyond belief to land in Bermuda after an absence of so many... decades.
The water, azure as ever, glittered from the coasts and the sand looked as pink as Simone could recall. Simone, hubby, B, A&A all piled into a taxi with their luggage and began the perilous journey down the narrow roads to their hotel.
The Southampton Princess lobby smelled of fresh lilies and the rooms were clean, large and had a true walk in closet! The balcony looked out onto the back of the hotel but also the shore. The island measures so little in terms of width that the water is never far.
First order of the day? Swimsuits a dip in the hotel pool then off to the beach, for which a shuttle was conveniently provided.
Life can be very, very good...

Whaddya mean we're going on a plane now?
Simone's mind whirled. In the last few hours, she'd opened an anniversary card at 1 in the morning, discovered that her gift was a trip to Bermuda and that no, she did not have to pack anything at all: hubby had filled a suitcase with brand new clothing and dresses - all her size. The same service had been given to B who, groggy and a little grumpy at the early wake up call, sat in the back seat of the car.
Now the car was pulling up to the airport. As soon as they went through the airport doors, Simone was greeted by her second oldest son and his girlfriend.
"Surprise!" They cheered. "We're going with you!"
"Wait a minute," B called out. "What day is it?"
"It's Friday," Simone replied, bracing for the storm.
"But I have one more day of camp! Today is my last day of camp! Take me home now! I don't want to go on a plane! I want to go to camp!"
Poor little guy...

Waouh!
Bon. On respire un peu. On part quand, au fait?
Dans QUATRE heures!

Concert time
Simone had barely returned from France that her schedule already seemed overwhelmingly busy. B had a day camp to attend but, midweek, he also had a concert to go to: his very favourite band, One Direction, was playing in Toronto. Simone picked B up after camp and drove to the downtown Toronto hotel near the venue. They checked into their room, tiptoeing quietly: hubby was already sleeping in the bed.
"When can we go? When can we go?" B hopped up and down impatiently.
"After you eat something. The show doesn't start for another two or three hours," Simone replied.
Fortunately, the concert was steps away from the hotel.
Unfortunately, Simone, unlike other chaperones attending the concert, forgot to take earplugs.
The average age of the concertgoers was, oh, 11, and a majority of the preteens were female. Females who screamed, squealed and shrieked at, seemingly, every possible opportunity. By the end of the concert, Simone wasn't even sure whether the concert had been good. She was, however, certain of one fact: her hearing was most definitely compromised.
And B? Bearing a concert memento and the brightest smile a six year old could post, he lit up the Toronto night.

Let's go shopping
The reception clerk assured Simone that the shopping area was within a short walk of the hotel.
Let's be clear: the reception clerk lied.
It took Simone and B nearly an hour and a half to make it to the nearest store - meaning that they got there minutes before it closed. Fortunately, this store sold a little bit of everything. Simone was able to find clean t-shirts and pants for B as well as some toiletry items to tide them through until the next day. B, to his delight, found a backpack. "Can I have it?"
Given that the poor kid had split his skull open minutes before boarding their plane back home, delaying their departure for a day, Simone felt that maybe he should get a little something. Plus it would be perfect for carrying all their purchases.
Once their shopping done, they meandered over to the McDonald's and, by a small miracle, found a place to sit down to enjoy their meal.
"Can I change my shirt?" B asked.
"Yup," Simone agreed. B's old shirt, covered with the blood from his head wound, definitely needed a wash.
"Are we walking back?" B asked.
Simone looked around but failed to spot a taxi. There were, however, busses. "We'll figure it out, kiddo," she promised B and, a bus and a taxi later, they were back at the hotel.
