A Picasso Is Born

Baby B received a new easel last weekend. At first, he was delighted to find that it came with a set of alphabetical and numerical magnets. He stuck the letters and numbers, using various configurations, onto the white board. Then he put them all away and started again. The easel kept him occupied for hours!

Yesterday, Simone bought Baby B a paintbrush. Baby B eyed this new purchase quizzically but didn't voice his concerns. When they got home, Simone asked Baby B if he'd like to paint.

"Yesth," he said carefully, lest she mistake his meaning.

"What colour would you like to use?" asked Simone.

No hesitation. "Blue."

Simone went to mix the paint then returned with a placemat for the floor, a stepladder for Baby B to sit on while he paints and an old shirt for him to wear while painting.

"NAAAAAAAH!" yelled Baby B when Simone attempted, to no avail, to insert the boy's arms into the old shirt's sleeves.

"Did you want to paint?" Simone asked calmly.

Baby B regarded her suspiciously. "Yesth."

"Then you have to put the shirt on," insisted Simone.

Paintfrush in hand, the master began to paint...
