A little closer and THEN you can play

Eliot the dog got another dose of dog training this morning. He and Simone visited a friend with a well-behaved Golden Retriever whose name is "Tiara".

Tiara sat calmly with her owner at one end of the street while Simone and Eliot stood some distance away.

Eliot started off wearing his haltie, a contraption he heartily dislikes. Simone turned the dog around every time he pulled on the leash to go toward Tiara. Unfortunately, this did not produce good behaviour on Eliot's part.

It did manage to make Simone very, very dizzy.

She decided to try a new method. Each time Eliot pulled on the leash, Simone stood quite still and held the dog back until he calmed down, stopped barking and turned his head to look Simone in the eyes. They inched forward (literally) toward Tiara and her owner. Surprisingly, it didn't take all that long to get to Tiara. After about 10 minutes, Eliot had calmed down enough that he could sit in front of Tiara, unable to reach her, for 30 seconds at a time.
Hey, you gotta savour the small victories - especially if that's all there is!
