The Display

Simone took Baby B with her to the garage where they removed the snow tires. Several other people shared the waiting area with them as Simone entertained Baby B with various games and colouring activitites.

After a few minutes of apparent enjoyment, Baby B scrambled off Simone's lap and headed for a little pamphlet stand near the store's front window display. Baby B struggled with this stand, pulling it this way and that. "Hehp. Peas!" he grunted once or twice.

Not quite understanding the reason behind the urgency but nonetheless pleased that Baby B had said something recognizable, Simone helped him pull the stand into the waiting area, giving Baby B access to the display window. It was the only open space: everything else was taken up by tires.

Baby B squeezed past the stand and stood in the display window. A couple of heartbeats later, his face contorted and he grunted in earnest. The smell emanating from him was unmistakable. So was the look on people's faces as they noted the anomaly in the storefront window. In trying to hide from the people in the waiting area, Baby B had chosen a very public place to finish the "job".
