Settling in
Our first stop after the airport was the hotel.
You might think we would have gone to eat immediately, given my stepmother's hunger, but we had luggage to drop off...
Once settled in, we walked out of the hotel into the New Orleans heat (we later learned it was in fact quite cool for the area!). Our first stop was to be the Café du Monde so we could try beignets. After wandering off in the wrong direction for a couple of city blocks, we righted our trajectory.
"Are we there yet?" B demanded. "Can we grab a taxi?"
Nope. We were walking and that was all there was to it.
The Café du Monde was an experience. The coffee was great. The beignets, well, they were doughy and covered in icing sugar. A lot of icing sugar. Okay. A mountain of icing sugar.
"Mom!" B said, pointing as we sat in the restaurant. "There's a toy store over there!"
Well, well... and here I thought he was oblivious to everything around us...
