Eliot the White-Nosed Shepherd

As Simone walked the puppy after the first snowfall of the season in mid-October (gotta love living in Barrie), she reflected on the beauty of fresh-fallen snow on branches, trees and grass. The temperature was still warm enough that Simone did not instantly transform into an ice cube simply by being outside. Red, pink and off-white roses peeked out from a layer of heavy snow. The sidewalk and driveways stayed clear, offsetting the white lawns with borders of yellow, covered as they were in autumn's leaf harvest.
The puppy was in no such reflective mood. He hopped, bounded and twirled and occasionally, accidentally wrapping himself up with his leash, tripping. The snow was new! The snow was bright! The snow was cold! Oops! The snow cushioned his fall! And, hey! The snow was... EDIBLE!!!
So the puppy's course continued in a hopscotch manner but after the initial taste of snow, the path altered to include regular nose dips into the white stuff. (Simone does not stop walking when she starts, particularly when the weather is cold.) After a few moments, Eliot's black nose was covered in snow and, unbidden, the "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" song popped into Simone's head, thoroughly messing with the Alexis on Fire music playing on Simone's iPod.
"Eliot the White-Nosed Shepherd
Had a special snowman nose
And if you ever saw it
You might even say it froze..."
Yeah. You get the song out of your head if you can. Simone sure couldn't.
