Water Shortage

The notice arrived a few days prior to the event: the city would shut off the water supply on Simone's street in order to flush the sewer system. Water would be shut off on a weekday from 8 am- 8 pm.

"Why can't they shut it off during the night when most people would be less affected by this?" Moaned Simone.

"Because then they don't have to pay their employees overtime to work the graveyard shift," hubby pointed out reasonably.

So early in the morning, Simone filled two bucket with water in the laundry sink, one for cleaning one for dog water. She filled two pots with water and left them on the stove. She filled on sink with soapy water and the other with rinsing water. She filled on large jug with water and put it in the fridge for drinking. And, of course, she filled the kettle to brimming. Can't have a day without tea...

All the while though, Simone worried about her level of dependence. About all of us...

Because issues popped up, of course. Washing hands after using the facilities became a bit of an issue. Toilet training... well, let's not discuss the details, but it should suffice to say that toilet training without running water while housebound was a messy proposition. We've become accustomed to a certain level of hygiene and the lack of running water definitely lowered the standards. Imagine the chaos should we be unable to find water...

Can't have a day without tea indeed.
