Impromptu Road Trip

Thanksgiving weekend seemed rather quiet. By 1 pm Saturday afternoon, all the chores had been done, heralding the approach of two days of blissful indolence.

"What do you say we go to Ottawa this weekend?" suggested Simone's hubby.

The 18 year old attends university in Ottawa and, due to a sporting engagement, would be unable to return home for the holiday. Simone thought about it for a nanosecond. "Sure! Let's go!" They were unable to leave immediately as the dog needed a place to stay and the kennel was closed but by 9 am the next morning, the car was packed and everyone was raring to go.

"Ow!" complained the 11 year old. "The dog is sitting on me!"

Little B, entertained by his sister's squeals, pulled her hair to hear some more.

"Well, this is going to be fun..." hesitated Simone. "Okay, you," she pointed to the 11 year old. "Headphones on. Your iPod is charged, is it not?"

The 11 year old nodded sorrowfully and placed her earphones over her ears. Silence descended over the car until the dog spotted another canine walking down the street.

"Are we there yet?" joked Simone. In the midst of chaos, nobody heard her.
