Sunny days in the park

The beginning of November usually means cold, blustery weather. The last three days have been a blessed exception and Simone intended to make the most of this blip in the weather radar today. Usually, her mornings are a round of errands, meetings, duties, chores, appointments and endless things to do. This particular Thursday morning, the day was blissfully void of any requirements save to enjoy the day.

And what a day it was! The sun shone bright in the sky and, after an exerting five minute walk, Simone was forced to remove her black coat because it was simply too hot to wear it. Baby B refused to put his coat on and Eliot the dog remedied the heat dilemma by letting his tongue hang out for air.

When they arrived at the first playground, Baby B prompthly removed his yellow boots from his person. He wasn't wearing any socks and Simone did not fuss much about the lack of footwear. Eliot stared expectantly at Simone and bounded happily toward the slide once she removed his leash. They all took turns sliding down the slide, digging in the sand and wrestling in the dirt.

When another young fellow arrived at the playground with his attendant slave, Baby B decided he'd had enough and said, "Come!" to his slave, Simone.

They headed toward another playground. Simone felt that such a warm, beautiful day with nothing to do ought to be enjoyed to its fullest.

At this new playground, a large group of daycare children cavorted about. Two of them howled in fear when they saw Eliot. Another approached cautiously, introduced himself to the dog by way of letting Eliot smell his hand, then did not leave the dog's side for the remainder of the visit to the playground.

Baby B, for his part, darted for the sand toys that the daycare providers had thoughtfully brought along and left unattended in the sand. A frenzy of castle and tower building followed, with extensive commentary and instructions from Eliot's new groupie, as well as some well-directed castle and tower destruction by Baby B and a baby girl who occasionally wobbled by before scurrying away as soon as Eliot barked.

The next stop was Jeff's house. Jeff is 6 months older than Eliot and the two dogs love to play together. Simone rang the doorbell and Jeff's owner answered.

"Can Jeff come out to play?" asked Simone.

The two dogs then bounded, leaped, bit and rolled for twenty minutes. At that point, Simone felt a little hungry and decided it was time to go home to hang the laundry outside to dry.

In November. Who'd have thunk it?
